My family always used a cream called Ambi. Don't know if it is still readily available. I don't really know how good it is but my mother her sisters and my grandmother all used it. vitamin e ! when you are depleted or dont have enough in your bod some people get spots, my cousin had spots and he took vitamin e capsules and it worked.
I used the obagi system. It is made to resurface skin. Comes with one lightener that is mixed with retin a to make it work better as well as a sunfader cream which helps lighten dark spots as well as keeping them from coming back. It is rather pricey, but if you do an internet search, you can usually find it cheaper than getting it from your dermatologist.
